Pondicherry....... Puducherry...... Whatever!
Le français restera langue officielle des Établissements aussi longtemps que les représentants élus de la population n'auront pas pris une décision différente....... Know French???? Bad luck… lookup English-French dictionary and make sure to carry one while you are heading out for Pondicherry. Wait…. not Pondicherry…. let me be politically correct…. it is Puducherry.
Basically, the town is divided into two quarters…. the French Quarter, i.e. ‘Ville Blanche' or 'White town' and the Indian quarter, i.e. 'Ville Noire' or 'Black Town'. So, in other words, it’s a Black and White town.
Trust me when I say this; there is a major disparity in the design of both the quarters, of course with some grey shades. Well, no wonders in guessing the Black town is indeed drab and downscale whereas the White town is architectural grandeur. Grid patterns…. neatly designed houses…. perpendicular streets… clean lanes and that too in India…. is really a splendid sight.
Although there are not much places to visit in the French colony, except serene Rock and Sand beach, Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville, Botanical Gardne, Chunnambar Boat House and Pondicherry Museum.
The place is surely food lovers’ delight as it offers a wide range of lip smacking gourmet. Foodies; especially those who rave for Italian food, can relish yummy pizzas and pastas, and that too at such a fairish price….that I bet you can’t just have one. Not just food…. I enjoyed sipping a cuppa of koffie at the beach and watching sunrise in Pondicherry….. Puducherry…. whatever!!!!

I have heard a lot of this place from one of my cousin who used to head down there most of the weekends from chennai !
Twice me planned heading there, but dint quite make it ! some day surely :)
